How to make your audience feel something 📝🎶

Use this 3-part formula to make your next content asset stand out.

I’ll be real with you, I’m a SUCKER for oldies. Al green, Teddy Pendergrass, Otis Redding, The Temptations, Marvin Gaye, the list can go on.

There was just something about that time, that the music made me feel something. And still makes me feel something today with all the new music and artists out there.

When I say feel something I mean, it makes me want to groove. It makes me think. It brings back the “good ol days and feels”.

And for that reason, I keep going back to my oldies playlist.

We all have that ONE playlist we keep going back to or keep close. Why?

Because it makes you feel something.

When I think about the BEST content marketing today, the content that readers want to consume and keep coming back for, it’s the type of content that makes them feel something.

It evokes emotion. It makes them think and ponder. It makes them raise their eyebrows a certain way like Devin Reed would say. It’s content they can connect to. And they want to keep going back for more and more because it’s valuable and it makes them feel something.

With so much content today and AI walking through the door, this type of content I’m talking about will continue to increase in value and lead the way. The best content marketers and brands are already doing it today.

Let’s quickly get into some ways you can make your audience feel something in the next content assets you create.

Short on time? I got you, TL, DR at the bottom.

Content should be relevant

Ask yourself: Is the content you're creating important to your audience right now?

Timing is everything. Would you create tax-centered content for tax professionals outside of tax season? đź¤”. The timing of your content is an underrated factor some content marketers forget.

Next thing. You don’t need to know everything about your audience to produce relevant content, but you do need to know some important facts like:

  • Challenges

  • Wants

  • What they care about

  • When they care about them

  • How do they feel about their most burning issues

Get this right and your audience will think you are speaking directly to them, and you understand them.

Content should evoke emotion

Storytelling is a great technique to evoke emotion from your readers. Stories are engaging, memorable, and relatable. They can make you laugh, cry, and even tick you off.

Content that creates no emotion or doesn’t draw anything out of your readers is boring content. That’s the type of content that readers scroll past, never open, and run away from.

This is where human content wins over AI.

Content should be actionable

If your content isn’t making your readers take action, what’s it doing?

Readers love the content that gives them advice that they can use immediately. That’s why “How-to” videos are king on YouTube.

Create content that shows your reader what to do and how to do it. This can be a step-by-step guide, a template, or real-life relatable examples.

Actionable content packs a punch and is super valuable. It will make your readers keep coming back and even share it with a friend.

TL, DR if you’re short on time

Create content that makes your audience feel something by doing these 3 things:

  1. Be relevant

  2. Evoke emotion

  3. Create action

I’d love to learn what type of content you are creating that makes your audience feel something, let me know with a quick response.
